Keynote Speakers

Prof. Gökdeniz NEȘER, “Dokuz Eylül” University, Izmir, Türkiye

Prof. Dr. Gökdeniz Neşer from Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology’s Marine Technology Department is a naval architect who graduated from Istanbul Technical University.

He has carried out several research studies in the field of advanced polymer composites for marine use, including their degradation and recycling and life cycle assessment.

Prof. Neşer has published research on marine pollution issues, e.g., environmental, and occupational impacts of the global ship recycling industry, environmental management of dredging, shipyards and ship repair facilities’ effects on the environment, and oil pollution prevention funded by the EU, UN, and national agencies. He has been in Japan, the USA, the United Kingdom, and Poland as a visiting professor and research fellow.

Prof. Neşer also served as a board member of the Water Supply and Treatment Directorate at the local level and as the director of DEU’s Boatbuilding Research Center.

Assoc. Prof. Petar GEORGIEV, Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria

Petar Georgiev is Assoc. Professor in Naval Architecture and Mechanical Engineering Department (NAME) of Technical University of Varna. He teaches the following courses: Introduction to Naval Architecture; Hydrostatic and Stability of Ships, Ship Design, Design of specialized vessels. Memberships:

– Member of the Managing Board of Marine Cluster Bulgaria

– Member of the Managing Board of Scientific and Technical Unions, Varna

– Member of Committee IV.1 “Design Methods, Principles and Criteria” of International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress – ISSC 2025 (Shanghai)

More than 20 scientific papers for the last 5 years on short sea shipping, Air Pollution and Economic Impact from Ships, analysis of containership traffic, etc.

Assoc. Prof. Eng. Galina ILIEVA, Research Institute, Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria

Assoc. Prof. Galina Ilieva is Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria. She holds degree “Master after Master” in “Turbomachinery and Propulsion Systems” from von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (Belgium).

G. Ilieva worked on EU projects at the Center for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technology, Portugal.

Currently, assoc. prof. G. Ilieva is Director of Research Institute – Technical University of Varna, lecturer in marine engineering, as well as leader of several projects with EU financing.

Assoc. prof. G. Ilieva has published more than 40 papers on CFD analysis, biomimetics, innovative propulsion systems, design and air-vehicles and platforms, VET, fluid dynamics, etc. Her research interests are in the area of innovative propulsion systems, fluid mechanics, rotating machinery, problems and perspectives of education, green and blue energy, etc.

Irina KIRCHEVA, Maritime Cluster Bulgaria

Irina Kircheva has more than 10 years’ experience in development and implementation of projects for the support of entrepreneurship and innovations in the North-East region of Bulgaria, realised in the framework of national and/or European Programmes.

She is presently an Expert Programmes and Projects at Marine Cluster Bulgaria. She is specialised in identifying opportunities for financing of start-ups and established innovative companies and conducting marketing research and identification of new business opportunities.

As a Business Advisor of Enterprise Europe Network with host organisation Marine Cluster Bulgaria, she provides business support services for the internationalisation of Bulgarian SMEs.
